Grand Prismatic Spring is part of the Midway Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Within the rainbow of orange, brown, and red colors, microorganisms called thermophiles live in communities of thick mats. These microbes contain colorful pigments that allow them to make energy from sunlight and thrive in the harsh conditions of hot springs.
